I noticed a real shift in the after series where the characters all seemed too happy, too just on the cusp of a smile. It lost a lot of its credibility for me this way.

For all of Mary's flaws, she doesn't use or step on people like Edith did.

Edith is a victim of her own fears and the need to compete with Mary. Sybil never had any such insecurities. Sometimes the best way to win is to not play at all.

Barrows little "what about me mr carson" you know he actually rly wanted to be there, quarrals aside he does respects the man alot, and mrs hughes is one of the view ppl who rly saw barrow from the beginning. Just a small line but the delivery speaks volumes to me

Edith's storyline is for me equal parts enjoyable and frustrating. The whole thing with her daughter was vastly unfair to everyone involved. Poor young Marigold yanked around in confusion from family to family, place to place. The poor selfless, kind-hearted Drews, who just tried to do something good and were taken advantage of by Edith and ended up having to leave their home, their livelihood, pull their kids away to a new unfamiliar place, and losing an adopted daughter and sibling they had bonded with. Edith was caught in a horrible dilemma that had no perfect solution but the collateral damage that was caused just so she could keep her daughter with her in secret and save her own pride and status was rather unconscionable, in my opinion.

Edith because of resentment and severe insecurity is the meanest and most-flawed Crawley child. All of her misfortune did not have to be the way they were if she had not let fear get in her way.
